Staff and volunteers at Southport and Birkdale Sports Club have been praised for staging a hugely successful Lancashire versus Hampshire County Cricket match.
S&B proved to be a lucky ground for Lancashire once again as they won by six wickets in front of a great crowd and with four days of glorious sunshine to record their first LV= County Championship Division One win of the season.
There were lots of great comments from visitors who enjoyed four days of top class cricket at Trafalgar Road in Birkdale.
S&B Cricket Chair Andrew Carney said: “We had a target of 4,000 spectators over the four days, so we were delighted to welcome 5,000 spectators.

“Lancashire won their match for the first time this season, and that always helps, as did the great weather.
“The feedback we have had from people who attended has been excellent.
“The stars of the show were the staff and the volunteers who worked so hard over the last few weeks to make sure this happened so well. They gave us terrific support.

“Everyone at D’Vine Catering was exceptional in providing everything that everyone needed.
“We are all very happy with the way it all went. It has been a real club effort.
“We’re pretty tired now!
“It was brilliant to see the Lancashire match have such a big knock-on impact for the town as a whole as well.

“Lots of people from Hampshire and from Lancashire were staying at hotels and guest houses and were eating at restaurants in Southport. Birkdale Village was very busy!
“It’s nice for the town to get a bit of a lift as well. We are thrilled with how it all went.
“We’re already working on our next big events, with lots more to look forward to at S&B.

“There are some fantastic fixtures coming up.
“We are excited to be hosting top-level ladies cricket at S&B on 7th July, when Thunder host Southern Vipers in a Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy match.

“That will be followed by England versus Australia’s Over 60s teams in the Grey Ashes on 19th July.
“Then we are looking forward to hosting our S&Beer Fest in August.
“These are very exciting times for the club.”
