The Southport chef who created the official pudding for The Queen’s Jubilee is inviting you to create your very own pudding!
On 12th May 2022, millions of TV viewers watched as Jemma Melvin’s famous Lemon Swiss Roll and Amaretti Trifle recipe beat more than 5,000 desserts to win Fortnum & Mason’s Platinum Pudding competition.
It was screened on the BBC One programme, The Jubilee Pudding: 70 Years in the Baking.
Now Jemma will be among the judges at a special Bake Off competition which will take place at Greenbank High School, on Hastings Road, Hillside, Southport, on Saturday 20th June 2026.
It’s being organised by Southport Spotlights Musical Theatre Society, which is staging the Great British Bake Off: The Musical at Southport Little Theatre this summer.
A Southport Spotlights spokesperson said: “Four years ago, Southport’s very own Jemma Melvin wowed the nation by winning the Platinum Jubilee Bake Off-style competition, creating a dessert fit for Her Majesty The Queen: The Platty Pud.
“We are absolutely delighted to announce that Jemma will be joining us as an official judge for Southport Spotlight’s Musical Theatre Company’s very own Bake Off competition at Greenbank High School on Saturday 20th June 2026!
“The competition is open to ALL ages, so whether you’re a star baker in the making or simply love a good Victoria sponge, we’d love you to get involved.
“Expect plenty of sweet treats, community spirit, and a wonderful summer fête atmosphere throughout the day.
“The event is all in aid of helping Southport Spotlights bring our upcoming production of The Great British Bake Off: The Musical to the stage at Southport Little Theatre from 1st–4th July 2026.
“So get those aprons ready, start perfecting those recipes, and come along to support local theatre and local talent.”
Kelly Bond said: “How blooming lucky we are to have support from Southport’s very own Nigella … Jemma Melvin, myself, cast and committee are beyond grateful to her for giving up her time and baking expertise to judge the Southport Spotlights Musical Theatre Society’s very own bake off next month. Who’s going to enter?!?”
