Andrew Byrne, the owner of Fabulous Furniture on Lord Street in Southport, donates a special picture to Ashley Flint from Southport & Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust

A Southport shop has donated a work of art to thank NHS workers at Southport Hospital.

Fabulous Furniture – Luxury At A Discount was delighted to give a framed picture showing a pair of silver wings over the top of a rainbow with the words Thank You to the hospital.

Fabulous Furniture Sales Manager Andrew Byrne had the honour of presenting the gift to Ashley Flint, the Charity Fundraising Manager at Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust.

The picture will now take pride of place in the Waiting Room in the A&E Department at Southport Hospital.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the rainbow has become a symbol of hope for people impacted by the crisis, pointing to hope and to better days ahead.

The silver wings symbolise the angels of the NHS who look after us all.

The ‘Thank You’ was Fabulous Furniture’s way of showing their gratitude towards everyone who works in our national health service.

Andrew Byrne said: “We care a lot about our local community and are very grateful for everything that the NHS workers at Southport Hospital have done to help local people during this pandemic.

“We were delighted to hand over the picture to Ashley Flint as our way of saying thank you in these dark times.

“We are grateful for Stand Up For Southport for putting us in touch with him.

“We now have a collection box and some leaflets for the Southport and Ormskirk Hospitals Charity in our shop so customers can donate if they would like to.

“Every little helps for what they are doing there.”

New local restrictions may be coming into place in Southport and across the Liverpool City Region, but shops in Southport, such as Fabulous Furniture, remain very much open.

At a time when money is tight, the shop is reaching out to anyone who is looking for affordable furniture for their homes.

Andrew Byrne has been at Fabulous Furniture for the past month, after previously working as an Area Sales Manager in the hotel industry. He has worked at Hilton Hotels and Double Tree, and was heavily involved in corporate event planning.

He is now keen to encourage more shoppers to call in and see what a great independent local business on Lord Street has to offer.

He said: “Lord Street is the best high street in the country with the history it has got.

“We want to bring luxury furniture and homeware at a discount to the local community.

“We are always looking at local trends, and what local people are looking for for their homes.

“We are then bringing items into stock at good prices for our customers.

“We are getting a lot of good feedback, not only through the shop but also through our social media pages on Twitter and Instagram, while we are launching our new Amazon store in the coming weeks. .

“We are also starting our Christmas Club, further helping our local customers in these difficult times.”

Fabulous Furniture – Luxury At A Discount is at 479-481 Lord Street, Southport, PR9 OAQ, phone 01704 807667. The shop is open 11am-4pm each day.
