September is upon us and we have had a wonderful summer with our beautiful Songs for Southport, then a bonus bar production of The Argument.
Our season will open officially on Friday, September 13, with ‘Allo ‘Allo 2: The Camembert Caper.
‘Allo ‘Allo was performed as the closer to our 2004/2005 season.
Audiences delighted and the cast had so much fun that some of them are back again (some in the same roles!) for more fun.
Margaret Mann is in the director’s seat once more so we know we are in for a skilful weaving together of comedy and characterisation.
Her cast of 26 will transport us back to René’s Café in wartime France to meet classic characters from the perennially popular sitcom.
They invite you to join us for a happy evening and meet, perhaps again, amiable host, René Artois [Simon Armstrong], Edith [Helen Bennett], his bemused wife, (who still can’t sing in tune), sinister Herr Flick of the Gestapo [Chris Smalley] and his amorous assistant, Helga [Helen Pickavance], the Gendarme, Crabtree [Nathan Coleman], who cannot speak proper French, (because he is English), accompanied by Resistance member, Michelle [Cate Leight] (‘I shall say this only once!’), the glamorous, sexy maids in the café, led by Yvette [Helen Pritchard] and Mimi [Ceri Watkins], who will do anything for René – including ‘entertaining’ the soldiers!
Along the way we also meet a contingent of officers, who are more interested in the ‘girls than guerre’, two pukka RAF chaps from Harrow, Alphonse, the wealthy undertaker who lusts after Edith – in a gentlemanly way – and Le Clerc, the master of forgery and disguises,(‘It is I, Le Clerc’) which never quite work!
These familiar faces are supported admirably by the peasants, soldiers and members of the Resistance, a prompt and seven different effective settings.
If you saw the first version, you will know how brilliant this will be. If you did not, then you are in for a treat!
