Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust today launches it first ever virtual hospital Open Week.
Due to Covid restrictions, the usual open day had to be cancelled and has been replaced with a week of videos, filmed around the Trust during the last two months.
The first video, released today, is from the Trust’s intensive care team. Led by clinical educator Mel Pinnington, the team runs through a proning procedure with a training mannequin.
Proning can help patients who are struggling to breathe, such as those with Covid-19, and became part of the daily routine in intensive care during the pandemic.

Tomorrow will feature a video filmed on an orthopaedic rehabilitation ward. The team there shows how they go the extra mile to help older people get back on their feet, often after a fall.
On Wednesday therapists demonstrate the use of simulator kit to help develop empathy with older people. Therapy dogs will feature on Thursday, a journey of a hip replacement patient on Friday, and to finish the week on Saturday will be an insight into life as a porter.
Chief executive Trish Armstrong Child explains: “We were disappointed to cancel our annual open day as it is a great opportunity for us to meet local people who use our services. We hope these specially-commissioned videos show that we’re open for business and working safely for patients, even in these challenging times.
“There should be something interesting for everyone, so we hope you catch as many of the videos as possible.”
