A Player Reunion & Hall Of Fame Saturday will take place at Southport FC

Ten Southport FC legends will be inducted into the club’s Hall Of Fame when a Players’ Reunion and a Hall Of Fame induction takes place at the club this weekend.

They include: Southport’s first Football League Captain; the Captain of the 1992/93 Title winning squad; a pre-war goalscoring legend; a play from the 1956 Olympics; and more.

The event has been made possible thanks to Barron Financial Solutions in Southport.

A Southport FC spokesperson said: “Starting with our centenary year in 1981 we have been able to hold a grand former player reunion event every 10 years, and we are delighted that following the lifting of coronavirus restrictions, and thanks to the generous support of Dave Barron and the team at Barron Financial Solutions, we are able to do the same this year, the fifth such event we have been able to host.

“The evening will also include the second Hall of Fame induction ceremony at the club. Induction into a club’s Hall of Fame is the highest honour we believe any football club can pay to its former players. To qualify for induction, each inductee must have made an outstanding contribution to the development, and/or success, and/or history of the football club and/or its community. Inductees can have made that contribution as a player, manager, coach, official, employee, director, supporter or volunteer.”

All 10 of this year’s inductees have been chosen by a selection panel chosen by the Former Players Association committee, including representatives of supporter groups, historians, statisticians and club officials.

Steve Dickinson – Supporters Player of the year 2001/02 & 2005/06, Players Player of the year 2001/02

James ‘Jimmy’ Fay –  Southport’s first Football League Captain, and founding member and secretary of the Professional Players Union (now the PFA!)

Paul Evans – Supporters Player of the Year 1982/83 & 1985/86, Players Player of the year 1987/88

Archie Waterston – Pre-war goalscoring legend and scorer of the most football league goals in a single season

Reg Blore – 60s goalscorer that became the first Southport player to gain Under-23 honours.

George Bromilow – represented Great Britain in the 1956 Olympic games in Melbourne and capped by the full England amateur side.

Colin Alty – Southport’s most versatile performer, our first ever Supporter’s Player of the Year in 1967, FA Cup giantkiller and key member of the promotion squad of 66/67 with well over 200 appearances.

The reunion and Hall of Fame Induction ceremony is to be held at the 1881 Lounge, formerly the Grandstand Bar, at Haig Avenue, on the evening of Saturday 13th November.

A limited number of tickets will be made available for supporters to purchase.

A Southport FC spokesperson said: “Barron Financial Solutions are Mortgage and Protection advisers based in Southport and have been great supporters of the club for a long time. We’re delighted that Dave and his team have chosen to support the Former Players Association.”
