Southport FC Manager and first team coach Alan Morgan have parted ways with the club.

It follows last night’s 1-0 defeat at neighbours Marine AFC, which leaves the Sandgrounders in 17th place, 19 points off the play-off positions and without a goal or a win in the past three matches.

A club statement said: “Southport Football Club can today confirm that we have parted ways with first-team manager Jim Bentley and first-team coach Alan Morgan.

“Jim took over the club with the side rooted to the bottom of the National League North and turned the club’s fortunes around, steering us to a comfortable 16th place finish safely above the relegation zone.

“The Board of Directors would like to place on record their sincere thanks to Jim and Alan for their dedication and professionalism during their time at the club.”

Club Chairman Peter Mitchell said: “On behalf of everyone at Southport FC, I would like to express our gratitude to Jim and Alan for their hard work and commitment. They have conducted themselves with the utmost professionalism throughout Jim’s tenure, and we wish both every success in their future endeavours. “

The Men’s First Team will be overseen by David Morgan as Southport FC undertakes the process of appointing a new management team which the club hopes to conclude as soon as possible.
