It provides a collective voice for these businesses, implements programmes to help promote local spend and plays a central role in attracting investment to the town.
Southport BID works hard to help promote Southport, what it offers and what is taking place. The organisation works with a range of partners to create additional exposure for local businesses. To do this the BID promotes a number of campaigns, such as Southport Independents, which launched in 2017. The campaign aims to celebrate the unique and wonderful small businesses in Southport and help people, both local and visitors, to rediscover and unearth the hidden gems of Southport and experience shopping, eating and socialising in Southport in a whole new light. Free to join for BID levy payers, the campaign is supported by a website and blog and each business participating receives a page on the website.
The Southport Business Against Crime network is funded and managed by Southport BID and backed by Merseyside Police and Sefton Council and connects over 100 town centre businesses. With assigned radios allowing fast communication of crime reporting and alerts, the scheme has proved a valuable tool to security teams both in the daytime and night-time economies. Petty crime and anti-social behaviour are just two of the areas where real differences are being made.
Christmas is an important time for local businesses, and the BID works hard to attract visitors into our town’s shops, restaurants, cafes, bars and hotels. The BID does this is a number of ways. It is the sole funder of all the town centre Christmas decorations and lights, along with additional tree lighting along Lord Street and other areas. Features have included a 40 foot fully lit Christmas tree in Town Hall Gardens and the family friendly Nutcracker Trail. The BID also provides award-winning floral displays year round that brighten the town and add to its visitor appeal.
