Southport BID feature by Stand Up For Southport
Southport BID CEO Rachel Fitzgerald is calling on everyone in the town to show togetherness and support our town this Christmas.
The BID is busy working with Sefton Council, Southport Royal British Legion, Sefton Council, Southport Pleasureland CEO Norman Wallis and others to create Southport’s biggest ever Christmas party on Saturday, 23rd November 2024.
The huge Festive Fun Day, centred on and around Lord Street, will feature acts including Toploader, Lemar, Gemma Collins, 14 local dance schools, bite-size pantos, children entertainers and more.
Southport BID has now installed the 60ft high Christmas Tree in the Town Hall Gardens, which is sparkling with thousands of lights alongside festive musical displays.
The BID is also creating a Southport Gingerbread Trail; festive decorations in the town centre; and more.
They will all add to the 300,000 lights which the BID has strung along both sides of the iconic Lord Street boulevard, making town centre streets really shine during the festive season.
Southport BID CEO Rachel Fitzgerald said:
“I would like to appeal to everyone in Southport to show your community spirit, kindness and togetherness and do all you can to support our wonderful town this Christmas.
“We are working with lots of local dance groups, performers, musicians, community groups and others to stage what will be a really exciting Festive Fun Day on 23rd November. We’d love you all to be there!
“This is a time to showcase the very best our town has to offer and show the world what makes Southport so special.
“Lots of local businesses and organisations are also playing their part that day by staging their own festive events to bring families into town from across the region.
“There are lots of other Christmas activities that we are putting into place too, including our 60ft Christmas tree with lights sparkling to music; and our popular Gingerbread Trail where families can win prizes.
“We hope that everything happening will attract families into Southport this November and December and give a much-needed boost to our excellent local shops, restaurants, bars, cafes, attractions, hotels, guest houses and others.
“We’d love to see everyone come together and get behind Southport this Christmas.”
Southport Festive Fun Day will be hosted by much-loved Southport performer Kelly Bond, and Alex Toal of Greatest Hits Radio, who will entertain the crowds with a special DJ set later in the day.
Festive fairground attractions will delight the crowds, and fun activities such as facepainting and creative workshops will prove to be popular attractions.
Visitors can enjoy festive markets at The Atkinson and Cambridge Walks, Christmas Grottos at The Vincent Hotel and Wayfarers Shopping Arcade, as well as lots more to be announced.
The Festive Fun Day performances will take place on Lord Street between 12pm and 6.30pm on Saturday 23 November 2024.
