Families will be invited to make the most of their front gardens when the 2023 Southport Flower Show takes place!

‘Don’t Forget The Front’ is the title of an eye-catching show garden created specially for the event by volunteers from the National Open Garden Scheme.

Members of the Lancashire branch of the organisation have been hard at work to create the space as their way of saying that it’s not just back gardens that home owners should be making the most of.

The National Open Gardens Scheme has been going since its creation in 1927.

It gives visitors unique access to over 3,500 exceptional private gardens in England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands, and raises impressive amounts of money for nursing and health charities through admissions, teas and cake.

Thanks to the generosity of garden owners, volunteers and visitors we have donated over £67 million to nursing and health charities and in 2022 made an annual donation of £3.11 million. Core beneficiaries include Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie, Hospice UK and The Queen’s Nursing Institute.

The National Garden Scheme doesn’t just open beautiful gardens for charity – it is also passionate about the physical and mental health benefits of gardens too.

Its members are now building up to their 100th anniversary in just four years time and wanted to make an impression with their show garden at Victoria Park.

Over 55,000 visitors will attend Southport Flower Show over four days from Thursday 17th August to Sunday 21st August 2023.

Brian Jones, from Ormskirk, who runs the Lancashire branch of the National Open Garden Scheme alongside his wife, Marian, said: “We are really keen to attract people to come and take a look at our show garden, and to learn more about our organisation.

“We are just short of being 100 years old, we’ve been going for a long time, but a lot of people still haven’t heard of us.

“We want to become better known, and thought creating a show garden at Southport Flower Show would be the perfect place to do that!

“Hopefully thousands of people will see our garden over the four days!”

With its combination of garden and floral displays, cookery demonstrations, shopping village, arena entertainment, live music and much more, Southport Flower Show, sponsored by Harrison Holidays, is a great day out for the whole family.

This year’s star guests include Countdown host Rachel Riley and her Strictly Come Dancing partner Pasha Kovalev.

Celebrity chefs John Torode and Lisa Faulkner are among the top names in the demonstration kitchen along with Masterchef’s Gabriella Margiotta and Lizzie Acker from the Great British Bake Off.

Kids go free to Southport Flower Show and younger visitors will be entertained by children’s TV star Justin Fletcher, who is returning with his acclaimed stage show.

And sharing their growing expertise will be Gardeners’ World presenter Frances Tophill, Garden Ninja Lee Burkhill, urban gardener Jason Williams and broadcaster James Wong.

Southport Flower Show, sponsored by Harrison Holidays, runs over four days from Thursday 17th August to Sunday 20th August and is held in the 34-acre Victoria Park close to the centre of the seaside town.

Some of the nation’s top growers compete for prizes every year at Southport and the show is famous for its spectacular grand floral marquee.

Tickets are £28 on the gate but buy in advance for an early bird discount with tickets purchased before 11.59pm on Wednesday 16th August available for £25.
