Christmas spirit was in evidence at Southport Community Centre, where dozens of local senior citizens were treated to a tasty three-course Christmas lunch along with some great entertainment.

The event was organised by The Hearth CIC with funding provided by the McCarthy Stone Foundation.

They were well supported by a variety of volunteers who stepped forward to help, including colleagues from the Making Energy Greener firm in Southport who cooked up a storm in the kitchen, with friends from Southport Christmas Shelter helping to serve the meals.

Guests were then treated to a fun game of bingo led by Les Gomersall.

The Hearth directors Rebecca Armstrong and Nadia Speers-Robinson said:

“What an incredible day at Southport Community Centre!

“We had the absolute joy of serving a delicious three-course Christmas lunch to more than 50 wonderful guests aged 65 and over – and what a festive atmosphere it was!

“Community spirit at its finest – together, we made memories that will last well beyond the festive season.”

The Hearth CIC is a community organisation based in Sefton that hosted its first big event, Earth Day, at Wayfarers Arcade in April.

This free, family-friendly event celebrated sustainability and empowered attendees with practical ways to save money on energy bills while making a positive impact on the planet.

Plans are already underway to create an even bigger Earth Day event for 2026.

They have also founded the Climate And Sustainability Action (CASA) business network to support local businesses to learn more about sustainability.
