Icy conditions have led to the postponement of this year’s Santa Sprint for Queenscourt Hospice.

The popular annual event, sponsored by Silcock’s Leisure, was due to take place this Sunday (11th December 2022).

The last couple of days has seen roads and pavements across Southport become extremely icy, while the Met Office has issued a Yellow Weather Warning for Snow and Ice for both Saturday and Sunday.

The Met Office says that: “Some disruption is likely due to icy surfaces, with snowfall in a few places.”

It warns people that there will “probably be some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths and some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces.

“In a few areas, difficult travel conditions may occur quite quickly due to heavy sleet, snow or hail showers making surfaces slippery or even snow-covered.”

A Queenscourt Hospice spokesperson said: “Please note that this year’s Santa Sprint has been postponed due to adverse weather conditions.

“As always, our main priority is to ensure the safety of all those taking part and organising the event.

“We hope to arrange an alternative date as soon as possible, and will be in touch with all of you who are registered to take part. N.B. All paid entry tickets will be valid for this new date.

“Please accept our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience caused, and THANK YOU so much for your continuing support.”
