Southport Hospital is investing £1million in a new Discharge Lounge.

A planning application has been submitted for the new facility at Southport and Formby District General Hospital on Town Lane in Kew in Southport.

The plans, which have been lodged with Sefton Council, call for the erection of a single storey extension to the hospital in the existing courtyard.

The investment has come through a £4.25million sum which was made possible through the Trust’s partnership with the St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals in January.

Nearly £2million is being invested in a temporary, standalone endoscopy unit at Ormskirk Hospital which comes in addition to £500,000 for the upgrade of the existing unit in the main building.

A further £1million is funding a new discharge lounge at Southport Hospital.

A mobile CT scanner and funding to improve the flow of patients through hospital is among the other investments and schemes.

Anne-Marie Stretch, managing director of Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust, said earlier this year: “By working together, the two trusts have successfully secured a significant early investment in our future together.”
