A Southport fish shop owner and fisherman who has delivered his seafood to the royal family is inviting people to enjoy delicious seafood as part of their Christmas dinner.

Kevin Peet, who owns the Peet’s Plaice fishmonger’s in Churchtown Village, used to deliver the world famous Southport potted shrimps – which he lands and pots himself off Southport Beach – to The Queen Mother.

Kevin has been fishing off the coastline for over 40 years, and even smokes his own cod and haddock, carrying on Southport’s seaside traditions.

During the festive season his shop is always popular with people eager to enjoy seafood as part of their Christmas gatherings.

Kevin Peet said: “We always enjoy the Christmas season!

“It’s a really busy time when families get together, sit down and enjoy meals together.

“We know that in most households, we can’t compete with people enjoying roast turkey as their main meal on Christmas Day – but we can provide lots of options for the perfect starter.

“Everyone loves seafood at this time of year. The Queen Mother used to order Southport potted shrimps from us many years ago; she absolutely loved them.

“On Christmas Day families love something a little different to start with, and we have so many popular choices, such as our locally caught Southport potted shrimps, our home-made lobster and smoked salmon pate, salmon gravlax, king scallops, Royal Greenland prawns – which make a great prawn cocktail, crayfish and more.

“We can create things that are extra special, such as salmon platters or our seafood platters; just call in or give us a call and let us know what you need and how many people for.

“We have extended opening hours in our shop between now and Christmas.

“This Sunday (22nd December 2024) from 10am we are open all day and will have Marshside Brass Band playing carols outside the shop from 10am.

“It’s always a popular festive tradition in Churchtown!

“If you order online, we also do deliveries in the Southport area to take the stress out of your Christmas season by taking what you need straight to your doorstep.

“Fish and seafood is also popular not just for Christmas Day, but for Boxing Day and over the festive period, when people are looking for something a little lighter.

“Our halibut, salmon, and smoked fish – we home-smoke it ourselves – always do really well.

“We are famous for our fresh fish counter at Peet’s Plaice, but we also have a large selection of frozen seafood too.

“One of our biggest sellers every Christmas are our jumbo fish fingers.

“I don’t know who likes them best, the kids or the grown-ups!

“Also in our freezers, we stock locally made Wallings Ice Cream, with a wide variety of flavours.”
