Katie Palfrey said: “Queenscourt Hospice is close to my heart after the exceptional care given to my uncle, Geoff Watkinson.
“As an NHS pediatric occupational therapist for nearly 20 years, I’m proud to be supporting Queenscourt, embracing new dance challenges, sequins, and sparkle, while raising vital funds for the hospice’s excellent work in our community.
“I do a lot of work in schools and other settings throughout Lancashire.
“I live in Tarleton in West Lancashire, but I was born and grew up in Southport and most of my family are still there.
“I have found taking part in Strictly to be challenging, but also exciting.

“At the end of the day it is raising awareness and funding for Queenscourt Hospice which is what is really important.
“The fact that Strictly is taking place this weekend with the event suddenly so close is terrifying!
“Everyone taking part is determined to raise money for such an amazing cause.
“I have been a choreographer for All Souls Dramatic Club in Southport, so everyone assumes that dancing in Strictly will come naturally for me, but sadly that’s simply not true!
“Richard and I will be dancing a modern jive which should be fun. I am really hoping it goes well.”
Katie and her Dad are already well known figures within Queenscourt Hospice, bringing smiles to patients, families and staff.
She said: “My dad and I have had a big connection with Queenscourt over many years.

“My dad used to go into the hospice and play songs on the piano that they have in there to entertain everyone.
“It would provide some light relief for people in there and bring a few smiles.
“I used to go along and join him and play my flute.
“My Dad’s brother, Geoff Watkinson, needed hospice care towards the end of his life, and I will be thinking of him when I perform in Strictly.
“Taking part is my chance to give something back, and I really appreciate the opportunity to do this. It has been a big commitment.
“I wish to thank my family, friends and loving husband for all their support and to everyone who has donated to my appeal.”
