The Manager of the new Tesco Express in Southport town centre says he is “extremely excited” to see the store’s grand opening today (Friday, 1st April).
The new shop will open at 50-52 Chapel Street, at the entrance to Southport Railway Station, at 8am.
In addition to providing new jobs in the area, it will further contribute to Tesco’s Community Grants and food bank initiatives across Southport and the surrounding area.
Supporting the local community is hugely important to Tesco and its colleagues, and over the last five years, the supermarket’s customers in Southport have helped to raise £140,736 for 73 groups and good causes through its Bags of Help blue token voting scheme – now known as Tesco Community Grants.
Since its launch in 2015, The Tesco Community Food Connection Scheme has also donated 156,098 meals to local charities in the area. The scheme has ensured no surplus food goes to waste from Tesco stores and distribution centres.

Store Manager Adam Simm said: “We are extremely excited to be opening our Southport Express store and helping to serve the local community.
“We have new colleagues joining the team at the store who are from the local area and that local knowledge and experience will be so important as we look to build connections and play our part in the community.”
Any local groups that would benefit from Tesco Community Grants funding are encouraged to apply here: www.tescocommunitygrants.org.uk/
Through distribution partners, FareShare and the Trussell Trust, local groups across the country are dedicated to ensuring that the most vulnerable within our communities are supplied with essentials even if they cannot leave home.
The Community Food Connection scheme is run in partnership with food redistribution charity FareShare. Each month more than a million meals of food are donated. The new store’s opening hours are 6am-11pm every day.
Tesco launched its food donations programme in 2012 and has since donated over 100 million meals from its stores and distribution centres.
