The Nationwide team in Southport held a fun day to raise money for Queenscourt Hospice at their branch in London Street and raised more than twice their target.

Nationwide customers joined staff and local businesses in a tombola and ‘Name the Bear’ – where the correct guess won a big fluffy toy bunny.

The team also ran a raffle in branch over the festive season which raised £604, beating the event’s original target to bring in an extra £250 for the Town Lane hospice.

Prizes offered by local shops and businesses included a £50 voucher for Pizzeria Mamma Mia, a gel polish manicure from Fantasy Nails by Marcia, and a cream cake donated by Hoghton Coffee Lounge & Bar – the cafe owned by Oldham Athletic goalkeeper Mathew Hudson and his family.

Local home businesses also generously donated sweet treats for a bake sale, including cakes from Believe Bakes and cinnamon buns from All about the Rolls.

Nationwide encourages its branch colleagues to get involved with their local community, especially when it comes to fundraising. Alongside normal holidays, every Nationwide staff member gets two days’ a year paid time off to volunteer.

Becky Quinn, Branch Manager at Nationwide in Southport, said:

“We have been so touched by everyone’s generosity, with people popping in and taking part, whether that’s in the raffle we’ve been running lately or in the fun competitions.

“It’s one of the great things about working on the high street – everyone who’s donated really cares about others in their community.

“We were aiming to raise a further £250 by the New Year – so thank you to everyone who’s helped us beat our target!”
