People are invited to head out and enjoy Britain’s favourite dish when this year’s National Fish & Chip Day takes place!

The popular annual event takes place on Friday 2nd June 2023.

Silcock’s Pier Family Restaurant on the Pier Forecourt and Silcock’s Embassy Restaurant on Nevill Street are inviting families to call in for a chippy by the seaside.

Fish and chip lovers in Southport will be joining the rest of the UK to celebrate the occasion.

In 2022, National Fish & Chip Day was one of the biggest awareness days of the year in the UK with over 35 million people hearing, seeing, or reading something about it, so don’t miss your chance to be part of it! Pop in on the day and join the celebration.

Silcock’s Pier Family Restaurant and Silcock’s Embassy Restaurant have been serving fresh fish and chips to the local community and visitors to Southport for many years.

They are asking customers to come together to celebrate Britain’s best-loved fast food by tucking into a portion of sizzling fish and chips.

Taryn Silcock said: “We all agree nothing can beat a portion of steaming fresh white fish fried in hot, crispy batter, served with a pile of lip-smacking chips – the only debate is whether you top it with salt, vinegar, sauce, or mushy peas!

“So, celebrate British fish and chips and join in with National Fish & Chip Day on Friday 2nd June by coming down to Silcock’s Pier Family Restaurant or Silcock’s Embassy Restaurant and enjoying a good old-fashioned Friday night fish supper…or lunch!

“Our cod and haddock are sourced from Fleetwood, while our potatoes come from a farm in Maghull. Our mushy peas are hand-made in a big pot on our premises, with no salt or sugar.

“We offer good, traditional, freshly made English fish and chips, using quality locally sourced ingredients, in modern, clean surroundings.

“At our pier family restaurant, we have lots of outside seating available and a balcony area with beautiful views across the Marine Lake and King’s Gardens.

“In addition to fish and chips, we also serve coffee, tea, cakes, hot dogs, sandwiches, salads, jacket potatoes, kids’ meals, there’s lots of choice for everyone!

“We also have lots of great flavours of ice cream available.

“You can’t beat a great portion of fish and chips when you come to the seaside, eating them at either of our restaurants or taking them away to eat them while strolling along the Promenade or next to the Marine Lake. There’s nothing better.”

National Fish & Chip Day is championed by trade organisation, The National Edible Oil Distributors’ Association.

NEODA President, Gary Lewis, said:”National Fish & Chip Day is a celebration of the stars who work hard to bring Brits their favourite traditional takeaway. We want to bring the whole industry together to celebrate and showcase the great British institution that is Fish and Chips.

“To help build support in anticipation for the event, we are urging people to start tweeting with the hashtag #NationalFishandChipDay.”
