Musical Fireworks in Southport sees Optimum Fireworks win ‘Champions of Champions’ as crowds enjoy spectacular weekend

Southport’s skies lit up in a blaze of colour and creativity this weekend as thousands of people visited Victoria Park for the 2025 British Musical Fireworks Championship, Champion of Champions Edition.

After two unforgettable nights of pyrotechnic artistry and cutting-edge technology, Optimum Fireworks claimed the first-place title, dazzling judges and audiences with a breathtaking display choreographed to music. Bright Sparks Fireworks secured a well-deserved second place, while Dragon Fireworks took third in the competition of former champions.

This year’s event was truly unforgettable, featuring Southport’s first-ever drone light show courtesy of DroneSwarm. Hundreds of illuminated drones danced across the night sky in perfect harmony, adding a futuristic twist to the traditional fireworks display.

Cllr Paulette Lappin, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Skills and Employment, said:

“The British Musical Fireworks Championship has always been a highlight of Southport’s events calendar, but this year exceeded all expectations. The combination of world-class pyrotechnics and a stunning drone light display created an experience that was nothing short of magical.

“Events like this provide incredible entertainment a real economic boost for Southport, attracting visitors from across the North West and beyond. Local businesses, hotels and restaurants all benefit and that’s something we’re proud of.”

Behind the scenes, the scale of the operation was just as impressive. More than 10 tonnes of fireworks, two tonnes of explosive material, 15 technicians and over five kilometres of wiring went into creating the shows that wowed the crowds.

The British Musical Fireworks Championship continues to reinforce Southport’s status as a leading destination for unforgettable events. Capping off a vibrant year that featured standout occasions like the Food and Drink Festival, the Salt and Tar Music Weekender and the Airshow. The 2025 Musical Fireworks Championship provided a dazzling finale to an exceptional events calendar.
