MP Patrick Hurley has called on Government Ministers to act urgently to repair school buildings at Christ the King High in Southport.
Following several meetings with Christ the King Catholic High School and Sixth Form Centre, the Southport MP this week spoke with ministers at the Department for Education.
To support their urgent need, Patrick Hurley has appealed to the department to work on an immediate solution to provide a modern temporary space.
He wants to ensure there is no disruption to students’ education whilst long-term plans to rebuild some of the school’s buildings are established.
The Government has already given a long-term commitment to improve the condition of schools and colleges, investing almost £20 billion in the School Rebuilding Programme through to 2034/35, delivering rebuilding projects at over 500 schools across England within the existing programme, including two schools already selected in Southport.
Alongside this, £31 billion of further capital funding for school buildings was announced at the Spending Review earlier this year.

In meetings with ministers this week, Patrick Hurley has called on the Department for Education to include Christ the King in further allocations of the School Rebuilding Programme, to provide a long-term future for the school and to provide a modern learning environment for sixth-form students at the college.
Patrick Hurley, MP for Southport, said:
“Schools across the country have been left to crumble after the Building Schools for the Future scheme was cut in 2010, leaving Christ the King with a serious and urgent need for repairs.
“This week, I have called on ministers to work with the school to ensure they receive support to keep their buildings open, to reduce the disruption this could have on the education of Southport’s young people.”
