Merseyrail enjoyed a remarkable night of success at the National Rail Awards 2025

Merseyrail enjoyed a remarkable night of success at the National Rail Awards 2025, held yesterday in Central London.

The prestigious event, which recognises excellence across the UK rail industry, saw Merseyrail named as finalists in seven categories, more than any other operator and walked away with two major awards.

The City Region’s rail operator was awarded the Accessibility Achievement of the Year award in partnership with Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and Stadler, this accolade recognises the pioneering work in making rail travel more inclusive.

From the introduction of the new Class 777 trains with level boarding and improved facilities, to station upgrades and staff training, the award celebrates a collaborative effort to remove barriers and improve the passenger experience for all.

Merseyrail also scooped the Great Place to Work award, highlighting their commitment to creating a positive, inclusive, and empowering workplace culture.

With a strong focus on employee wellbeing, development, and engagement, Merseyrail has fostered an environment where people feel valued, supported, and proud to be part of the organisation.

In addition to these wins, Merseyrail was also Highly Commended in two further categories:

Neil Grabham, Managing Director of Merseyrail, was delighted with the recognition.

“Being recognised for our work on accessibility and as a great place to work is fantastic.

It shows that we’re not only focused on delivering inclusive, high-quality services for our customers, but also on building a culture where our people feel valued and empowered. I’m proud of the dedication and hard work of our teams and grateful to our partners at Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and Stadler for helping us achieve this success.”
