A local man says the importance of having Southport Lifeboat on our coast has inspired him to run the London Marathon this month.
Stephen Ward is taking on the 26.2 mile challenge on Sunday 23rd April 2023 to raise funds for Southport Lifeboat.
Stephen, who runs locally with Southport and Waterloo AC, said: “The importance of having lifeboat facilities on the Southport Coast is vital for the area.
“The service, which is run wholly by volunteers, is a true testament to Kath Wilson’s vision.”
Working alongside some of our volunteers, he said he’s in absolute admiration at how the crew jumps into action once the pagers sound.
People can donate via his fundraising page here.
A Southport Lifeboat spokesperson said: “We would like to thank Stephen for choosing to support Southport Lifeboat.”
It costs £60,000 to keep Southport Lifeboat functioning all year round. That is no mean task during ordinary times, let alone the extraordinary times we currently find ourselves in.
Southport Lifeboat is funded entirely through public donations, and is independent of the RNLI, which abandoned Southport many years ago.
There are other ways you can help the charity continue to save lives, including joining Lifeboat Lotto or online donations.
