Children, families and staff at Linaker Primary School in Southport have enjoyed a Togetherness Week with a packed programme of community events.

In April, Linaker Primary School won the Sefton School Of The Year Award at the 2026 Grand Pride Of Sefton Awards at The Grand in Southport for its outstanding work both within the school and also within the wider Southport community.

They were busy with a range of activities showing what a welcoming school it is.

A Linaker Primary School spokesperson said:

“Our Togetherness Week brought our entire school community together in a truly meaningful way, with a wide range of activities centred around belonging, inclusion and celebrating diversity.

“From the moment the week began, the school was buzzing with energy as every class took part in creative Togetherness art projects, exploring themes of identity, culture and community.

“Children worked collaboratively on printmaking inspired by a range of artists, producing artwork that reflected both individuality and unity across the school.

“We also welcomed a range of visitors from our local community, including the police, fire service and a local farmer, helping our youngest children understand how people support one another.

“Reverend Rachel Bray worked with our Year 4 pupils to share messages of welcome and belonging within the church, reinforcing the idea that everyone has a place in our community.

“Alongside this, children took part in kindness workshops, team-building activities led by West Lancs Sports Partnership, and Taekwondo sessions with Unite Martial Arts, all promoting teamwork, respect and cooperation.

“A highlight of the week was our whole-school focus on the book The Big Umbrella, a powerful story about inclusion and making space for everyone. This message resonated deeply with the children and reflected what we believe to be our greatest strength at Linaker – our diversity and the sense that everyone belongs.

“The celebrations culminated on Friday, when children and staff came dressed in clothing representing their heritage or culture. It was a truly special moment, with our school community proudly showcasing the diversity that makes Linaker so unique.

“We then hosted ‘A Taste of Our Community’, an after-school event where families came together to share food, culture and stories.

“The atmosphere was incredible, with support from local businesses including Nanny Pearls, Bates Dairy and The Grill House, as well as the Salvation Army Band and a live broadcast from Dune Radio.

“ It was a wonderful example of our #TeamLinaker motto – ‘one team, everyone belongs’ – in action.

“Our Headteacher, Mr Cunniffe, said he was incredibly proud of the generosity of the local community and felt the week perfectly captured what we experience daily at Linaker – a genuine sense of belonging.

“It was important to celebrate the diversity of our school community and recognise the strength in that – it’s our superpower. We wanted to share that message beyond the school gates, because something this meaningful deserves to be celebrated across the wider community.”
