Students gather at KGV Sixth Form College in Southport to celebrate their success with friends and tutors

Now is the time to enrol at KGV Sixth Form College in Southport – and tutors can’t wait to welcome students back this September.

The College, which is based on Scarisbrick New Road in Southport, is a centre of academic excellence which last week celebrated some superb A-Level results.

An incredible 99% of the KGV Sixth Form College class of 2021 have been accepted at their first choice university.

It is testament to the quality of education on offer, the tremendous support which has been provided by tutors and the determination of students whose achievements were earned despite the challenges presented by the Covid pandemic.

Those studying vocational qualifications also received excellent results for their BTEC Advanced Level Extended Diplomas, equivalent to three A-Levels.

Assistant Principal Stephen Musa said: “Students at KGV Sixth Form College in Southport have a wide range of courses to choose from. Many go on to university to study courses such as veterinary science, medicine, law, with some students accepted at Oxbridge or gaining places at universities in The Russell Group. Our outcomes are excellent.

“This is an inspiring place to study and learn. Our students achieve fantastic results and progress on to great things.

“We have an excellent national reputation for results, regularly achieving pass rates of 100% and have a track record of over 60% of these passes being A*- B.

“Students who come to KGV Sixth Form College enjoy incredible individual teaching and support,  they have an individual Progress Tutor who they can always turn to for advice and our wonderful learning support team are available for any student who needs them.

“We have an Oxbridge programme here. We also offer scholarships through the KGV Foundation Trust.”

Students at KGV are treated as young adults with the sixth form college a stepping stone to university, a degree apprenticeship or employment.

The campus has free on-site parking for students and the college offers free travel passes. There are also excellent facilities, which include a large Study Centre, a brand new MUGA, refurbished science labs and a recently-built creative arts building.

The College has a real sense of community and a warm, happy atmosphere.

There is a packed extracurricular programme, including DoE, Sports Academy, drama productions and career-boosting programmes such as Lawyers of Tomorrow or Future Leaders.

KGV Sixth Form College suffered a dip in standards and student numbers a few years ago, under a very different regime, but it has since bounced back well. In recent years things have changed for the better.

Stephen Musa said: “The teaching, support and results for our students is excellent. No student needs to feel that they have to travel outside of Sefton for their post-16 education.

“There has previously been a perception that standards of education are better at other colleges – that is not the case. That was then and this is now.

“The issues that KGV had previously are firmly in the past.

“We have a new principal and a new senior team with a long-standing reputation of working in outstanding colleges, who along with our fabulous teachers, are working hard for our students.

“We have had a record number of applications and enrolments this year, which we are delighted to see.

“Enrolling is easy. Students can enrol online, or face to face. If they need additional support then we are happy to provide that.”
