To mark the launch of Southport 2026, a new image by celebrated photographer Julia Fullerton-

Batten has been unveiled — a modern recreation of the 1936 painting “Southport for a Holiday in Wintertime” by Fortunino Matania.

Featuring local business owners from the creative and entertainment sectors, the striking image symbolises both the town’s aspirational past and its vibrant, creative future.

A print of the work will be displayed alongside the original painting at The Atkinson in 2026.

People in the picture include Anthiony and Larissa Duffey from the award winning Sunnyside guest house; and interior designer and podcaster Claire Mills.

With its rich heritage, striking setting and renewed cultural energy, Southport is ready to make history once again.

Visitors are encouraged to mark their calendars and prepare to experience a truly unforgettable year in the town of seaside spectacle and wonder.

Giant chandeliers, world class circus performers and never ending rainbows will all be on show in Southport in 2026 as part of a hugely ambitious programme of new cultural events.

As one of the UK’s most historic seaside destinations, Southport has long drawn generations of

visitors with its elegant boulevards, Victorian architecture and flamboyant history.

That spirit is set to return on a grand scale with ‘Southport 2026: Elegantly Eccentric’ as the town transforms into a year-round stage for art, performance, music and imagination.
