Iconic artwork that showed how Southport is a town of love and compassion and not hatred has raised £1,500 for the families of the three girls who died last summer.

The art by Graphic Zombie depicted the courageous local woman who headed to the Sussex Road area of Southport as rioters targeted Southport Mosque, attacked police officers, damaged families’ homes and looted shops just 24 hours after the Southport tragedy.

The woman stood bravely in front of rioters, holding aloft a home-made sign which read ‘One Race – Human. Hope, Not Hate. Racism Not Welcome Here’.

Her brave stance was turned into artwork by Graphic Zombie and printed in three different sizes by The Print Quarter, before being sold through established family business Parkinsons Books on Lord Street in Southport town centre.

Parkinsons Books said: “Through the bravery of the anonymous lady who stood in the middle of the riots and preached Hope Not Hate, the artistic inspiration of Graphic Zombie and the team work of The Print Quarter and Parkinson’s Books, we have raised £1,500 in print sales.

“Each charity representing the Southport families has received £500 + Gift Aid.

“Thank you to everyone that bought a print, from around the country.”

The families of the three girls who died have each set up a superb charity: Elsie’s Story, Bebe’s Hive and Alice’s WonderDance.
