Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (MWL) will observe Baby Loss Awareness Week from 9th to 15th October 2025, offering support and remembrance for those affected by pregnancy and baby loss.
As part of the week’s activities, two special services will be held to provide a supportive space for families and staff to share their experiences and honour the memories of lost babies.
The week will begin with a Wave of Light and Candle Lighting Ceremony at West Lancashire Crematorium on Wednesday 8th October 2025 at 6pm.
Following this, a Baby Loss Remembrance Service will take place in the Hospital Sanctuary, Level One at Whiston Hospital on Saturday 11th October 2025 at 3:00 pm.
Both events are open to the community, with no booking required.
In addition, MWL will light up the front of Ormskirk Hospital and Whiston Hospital in pink and blue from Wednesday 9th October to Tuesday 15th October as a visible show of support for Baby Loss Awareness Week.
Reverend Martin Abrams MBE, who supports the events, said:
“I am heartened once again that the hospitals are supporting both Baby Loss Awareness Week and the International Wave of Light.
For many generations, pregnancy, baby, and child loss have been a hidden pain for many families. Raising awareness is not only helpful for those who have recently experienced a loss but also for those whose losses happened years ago, as it helps focus remembrance of their loved ones and highlights that support is available, even years on.
Everyone who would find it helpful, regardless of when their loss was, is welcome to attend any of the events we arrange.”
