Former public toilets in Formby could soon be converted into a new office, business and community hub.
Roots of Formby has submitted a planning application to convert the former facilities on Furness Avenue into The Small Room.
The proposals have been drawn up by LJ Architects Ltd.
In their submission, they said: “The existing site is a parcel of land set within a busy car park
“This application proposes the change of use to a mixed office and business and community hub.
“The proposed mix of uses aims to contribute positively to the local daytime and evening economies.
“During daytime on weekdays the building will be used for general office use and business facility use (ie as a bookable meeting room / hotdesk workspace etc).
“Then, through evenings and at the weekends the building would be used for community uses such as a meeting place for local community groups, workshop sessions or one-off events.
“The existing building is a prominent feature of Formby Village as it is visible from many viewpoints between shop front buildings, across the car park within which it sits as well as being on one of the major pedestrian routes between the ginnel to the side of Boots and the Cloisters shopping arcade resulting in significant footfall past it.
“The existing building is clearly in severe disrepair and as such is to be considered as an eyesore that is currently harmful to the general character of the area.
“Given the above observations the proposed alterations aim to repair and make good retained elements as well as introduce high quality materials to enhance the buildings aesthetic and contribute positively to the general streetscene.”
