Southport Market has been transformed into a festive wonderland for Christmas

These pictures show the first look inside Southport Market after its transformation into a Christmas wonderland – complete with a new movie room where families can enjoy free festive films!

Throughout December, people can enjoy PG or U rated films which will include: Frozen, The Santa Clause, The Polar Express, It’s A Wonderful Life, Elf and others.

Stunning work by Southport lighting firm IllumiDex UK Ltd has seen the venue adorned with amazing lighting,  wreaths, giant baubles along with an eye-catching tunnel of light at the entrance.

Christmas trees were supplied and decorated by Jenny Armstrong of Fantasy Weddings, who also beautifully decorated and styled the indoor and outdoor seating huts.

The transformation of the Extravaganza Cinema Room was managed and supplied by WeLoveThis – a local events company.

The cinema festoon lighting was supplied by MJD Events.

Christmas Markets are due to take place outside from next weekend.

And children will be able to visit the market’s special North Pole post office drop-off to ensure their letters to Santa are delivered in time for the big day.

A Southport Market spokesperson said: “It’s officially Christmas!

“We are so excited for our first Christmas at the Market. We have gone all out and we hope you love it as much as we do.

“The whole team has worked so hard to make this come to life we can’t thank everyone involved enough.

“We have everything going on here through December so check out: southportmarket.com for all the info.

“Can’t wait to see you.”

Sefton Council’s Tourism elves have been busy putting finishing touches to the plans, which will see a host of completely free events take place at Southport Market during the Christmas period.

Anyone wanting to arrange a Christmas get together at the market can now book and reserve tables by pre-purchasing a drinks package between December 3rd and 18th, while from December 11th free festive films will be shown in the market’s bespoke events space, in partnership with Bijou Cinema.

Also starting from December 11th, children can drop off their letters at the Market’s special North Pole post office drop-off, while Father Christmas and his elves will also be making a special guest appearance on certain dates.

Outdoor chalets featuring a wealth of present and gift ideas will also be held in the area around Southport Market

Cllr Marion Atkinson, Santa’s Sefton representative and Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Skills, said: “All of the special events we have planned are completely free and we are using a first come, first serve basis for our film showings and Santa meet and greet.

“There is plenty on offer from our incredible traders and they will be complimented by a selection of outdoor shopping chalets.”
