The Firepit Smokehouse and Sports Bar and The Potting Shed on Lord Street in Southport town centre have closed.
Owners announced the sad news today with a simple announcement saying: “ANNOUNCEMENT – Potters, we are now closed permanently.
“We would just like to give a massive thank you to everyone who has supported us during our time in Southport from the fantastic team to the brilliant locals.”
The venue opened in June 2018 after a £2.6million investment by bar specialists Ormsborough Ltd, with hundreds of guests given a red hot welcome at the VIP launch night.
The site of the former Sandgrounder was transformed into two distinctive concepts, including a large rooftop terrace, creating more than 50 jobs.
Potting Shed Bar & Gardens, with its quirky garden theme and indoor shed booth seating, was on the ground floor and specialised in craft beers, cocktails and artisan spirits, and freshly homemade food.
Firepit, on the first floor, had Americana décor incorporating classic car parts, neon signage and a custom-built Airstream-style aluminium caravan for private booth dining, and a massive 4 x 2 metre LED wall showing live sports.
Its menu focused on signature US-style dishes from an in-house smoker and wood-burning grill, served alongside an extensive selection of house cocktails, beers and spirits.
There was also a roof garden with retractable roof and function room so drinkers could make the most of the space whatever the weather.

The venue reopened on 7th May this year after being closed for several months due to the Covid pandemic.
Speaking on the firm’s Facebook page, Amanda Smith said: “I’m so sorry about this. We loved it there; the staff and food were great. Really sad to hear this.”
Nannie Tracy said: “We had a lovely time at my nephew’s birthday! Loved the whole place & bar staff manager where amazing couldn’t do enough for you.”
Kirsty MacPherson said: “Sad to see you close, we loved popping in with our wee dog Max,that’s one less dog friendly pub.”

“Sorry to everyone who works here, it is a fabulous space.”
