Firefighters from Southport Community Fire Station stepped up when called on to ensure Southport War Memorial is spotless for Friday’s royal visit by Princess Anne.

The HRH Princess Royal is leading the rededication of Southport War Memorial to commemorate 100 years since it was unveiled.

The event is being organised by Southport Royal British Legion, which was keen for the Monument to be looking its best for the big day.

Event organiser, Major Nick McEntee TD VR REME and Chairman of the Royal British Legion, Southport, said: We spotted some weeds growing out of the top of one of the colonnades.

“Who else could we ask to do some ‘at height’ weeding but the crew from Southport Community Fire Station!

“The Memorial and surrounding area now look amazing for Friday’s royal visit.

“Thank you team … you are amazing!”

People from across the region are being invited to enjoy the royal visit by Princess Anne to Southport this Friday for the rededication of Southport War Memorial.

The parade this Friday will form up at Victoria Park in Southport at 10.30am, departing at 11.15am, before parading along Lord Street.

The service at Southport War Memorial starts at 12pm, all welcome.
