Volunteers at the Botanic Gardens in Southport with their Green Flag Award

People are being asked to vote for the beautiful Botanic Gardens in Churchtown in Southport as one of the nation’s favourite parks.

Today (Wednesday 25 November) is your final chance to vote – so please help them now!

Volunteers at the park have continued to work tirelessly to make the park look stunning during the last few months of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In the past few weeks they have been awarded a prestigious Green Flag Award, along with a Certificate of Recognition and a Certificate For Inspiring Others from Britain In Bloom.

They are now urging people to vote for them in the People’s Choice Awards.

This year an army of experts awarded a record breaking 2,061 Green Flag Awards to the UK’s very best parks and green spaces. The scheme is now asking the public to vote for their favourites.

You can find your nearest award-winning green space at www.greenflagaward.org.

Once you’ve voted, why not encourage others to get involved too.

Voting closes today (25 November), with the top 10 winning sites announced on 3 December.

Paul Todd, International Green Flag Award Manager said: “This year we have all seen the importance of our precious parks and green spaces. The People’s Choice Award is an opportunity to show how much your favourite park means to you. Make your voice heard and vote now.”

Botanic Gardens Community Association Chairman David Cobham said: “The volunteer group and registered charity the Botanic Gardens community Association was established in 2012 with the aim of beating the proposed and actual severe cuts to the gardens and attractions within the park.

“The Gardens were opened as a privately run Pleasure Gardens in 1875 and has been a pleasure to millions of visitors who have enjoyed the many different attractions. We have helped to save many of the popular features such as the Fernery, the Aviary the Public Toilets and the magnificent Floral displays and have had great success winning top awards and featuring on the BBC Britain in Bloom Show in 2019.

“We manage to plant up five large beds with a different theme for Spring and Summer about 40 containers and baskets and maintain our Rose Garden and Herbaceous beds. The unique Fernery is leased to us and is now being restored by our team back to its Victorian Splendour.

“The park has many other great attraction and Events for people of all ages it is well worth a visit to the old village of Churchtown and the Botanic Gardens.
We thank all our supporters, sponsors and the the generous public donations received , it would not be possible with them.

Last year saw tens of thousands of people voting for their favourite park, with winners coming from all across the UK, from London to Lanarkshire.
