One of the highlights of the Wesley Street Summer Festival in Southport on Saturday was being able to enjoy a sneak preview of the new Emmie Lou Studio!

This beautiful new family-owned creative space is due to open in the next couple of weeks – look out for more details about their opening dates.

It’s going to be perfect for children, families, adults, friends, solo, date nights – going back to ‘analogue fun’ and enjoying creative adventures and making real human connections while putting away your mobile phones and tablets!

Create; connect; make something beautiful in a relaxed and friendly environment with various sessions or workshops available.

There will be lots of different activities to enjoy including pottery painting, macrame, mosaic making, charm making, a pottery wheel for those Ghost moments, cobble painting, tufted rug creating and more, with a bar on site and the delicious Walkers on Wesley Street cafe right next door.

There is no experience needed, just head in and enjoy, and take home something beautiful that you’ll remember.

Really excited about this new venture, wishing owner Emma Lloyd well as the finishing touches are put in place before the grand opening.

Emma Lloyd said:

“I’m not a professional artist! At least I wouldn’t describe myself as one (call it imposter syndrome or whatever you like). But, I’m a pretty good all-rounder and a LOVER of all things analogue fun!

“I’ve worked in corporate jobs all my adult life and been very successful growing businesses and crunching numbers. However, it made me soul-suckingly miserable  Soooo…..I took the leap in 2025 to start something new, really lean into what lights me up, and that’s anything and EVERYTHING creative.

“If you would love to take some time out to do something fun, zen, mindful, or mindless, I think you might’ve just found your new favourite place! It’s certainly mine.

“If you want to come and have a go at acrylic painting on canvas, oil painting, watercolours, illustration, floristry, cake decorating, rug making, life drawing, pottery painting, pottery slab building, wheel throwing, bedazzling, and much much more, then I think we can pretty much guarantee that you’re going to LOVE it here!

“We also offer private hire for socials and events, corporate team building, and community interest groups. Can’t wait to see you!”

The new Emmie Lou Studio opening soon will bring another great local business opening in Southport, with what has been a very positive summer so far.

Other new businesses opening recently include: Coffee King on Lord Street; Drishti Point Yoga in Wayfarers Arcade; The Hobby Post on Post Office Avenue; Pink String & Ceiling Wax on Union Street; Crust & Clay on Stanley Street; Footy Nation at Ocean Plaza; Coffee House on Chapel Street; Greggs on Chapel Street and more besides.

The Emmie Lou Studio will be a brilliant addition to the colour Wesley Street, the home of some fabulous local independent businesses which is known as being ‘The Village In The Town’.

There have been some positive comments from the venue’s first visitors.

Posting on Stand Up For Southport, Hayley Jones said: “This was such a gorgeous idea and Emma was brilliant with my little boy. He painted a bee on a rock and has proudly placed it in our garden. A lovely addition to Wesley Street!”

Wendy Moffat said: “A great idea! The studio looks lovely. Good luck to Emmie Lou.”
