People are being invited to post your pictures of the beautiful lights along Lord Street in Southport town centre after the launch of a new competition with great prizes to be won!

The stunning ‘boulevard of light’ was created last year in an initiative led by Southport BID with the lights installed by Southport-based lighting firm IllumiDex UK Ltd.

The scheme saw an incredible 300,000 sparkling LED lights strung through 80 trees on both sides of the Victorian Lord Street boulevard, creating a street like no other in the UK.

It has created a sensational sight for people.

Southport BID, Stand Up For Southport and Your Southport are now asking you to take pictures of the lights for the chance to win a £100 Southport Gift Card from Southport BID as a first prize or a £50 cash prize from Stand Up For Southport as a second prize – the perfect prize ahead of Christmas!

The Southport Gift Card is a Southport BID initiative which can be spent in dozens of Southport town centre shops, restaurants, cafes, bars and leisure venues.

To win, all you have to do is:

  •     Take a photo of photos of the lights along Lord Street
  •     Post your picture or pictures on social media with the hashtag #SouthportChristmas

The winner will be chosen on 2nd January 2023.

The judge’s decision is final, usual competition rules apply.

Southport BID CEO Rachel Fitzgerald said:

“We wanted to launch this fun competition to encourage people from Southport and from across the region to come into Southport town centre, to admire the lights and to enjoy our many excellent local businesses.

“This is the second year that people have been able to enjoy these lights along Lord Street.

“They look truly spectacular and give a huge boost to local businesses especially during these darker autumn and winter months, as people enjoy shopping, eating and drinking in Southport town centre.

“We would love to see lots of people taking pictures of the lights for our competition. They really do show Southport at night at its very best!

“As well as being in with a chance of winning a £100 Southport Gift Card or a £50 cash prize, sharing your pictures of the Lord Street lights on social media is a fantastic advert for our town and creates more reasons for people to come here and support our local businesses.”

The lights were installed by Southport firm IllumiDex UK Ltd, which creates lighting and Christmas decorations for town and village centres, retail parks, shopping centres, businesses and homes. IllumiDex also installs the illuminated Christmas tree in the Southport Town Hall Gardens and in other town and village centres each year.

IllumiDex UK Ltd Director Jan Clayton said:

“The word about the famous Lord Street lights is spreading! There is no other street in the UK like Lord Street at night. With the lights shining brightly, it looks incredible.

“We get so many positive comments from visitors to our town who say they absolutely love seeing them. They make such a difference in attracting people into Southport town centre, where they then support the local businesses.

“We love seeing the pictures that people take of the Lord Street lights and are looking forward to seeing the images that people take and share for this fun competition.”

The Lord Street lights bring sparkle to Southport town centre throughout the year.

They bring real magic in the run-up to Christmas, with Southport BID recently unveiling a wide range of exciting events and attractions to make this a truly special time for families.

The BID is funding a flurry of festive projects and activities to create lots of great reasons for people to visit the town centre over the Christmas period through to early January.

These activities include the return of the popular Santa’s Grotto, Frozen Grotto and Gingerbread Family Trail.

New additions to the Christmas programme also include Christmas Elf Parties and Christmas Carriage Rides.
