A fantastic opportunity to hear the voices of the school children of the Southport Learning Partnership will be on offer to dignitaries and guests on this Thursday (7th July 2022) at Meols Cop High School, supported by Rotary in Southport.
The special event will celebrate the projects and learning that students involved in the School Councils of 13 schools in the Southport Area have undertaken in the last school year.
The children have worked on environmental and community-based projects; they will present their work and their three points for improvement in their local area, to each other and to invited guests and dignitaries.
Mayor of Sefton, Cllr Clare Carragher, local councillors, Merseyside Police officers and local Rotarians will be among those lucky enough to be present.
Rotarian Janet Ramsdale, who has supported this event as a member of North Wales and North West England Rotary Passport Club said:
“It is very important that we are prepared to listen to and engage with the views of our children.
“Children often see things in a different way and can help us to find new solutions to old problems, and a way forward where we have failed previously.
“Their commitment and enthusiasm are infectious and can have enormous impact; I can’t wait to hear what the children will tell us.”
Rotarian Dianne Harrison of The Rotary Club of Southport, has also lent her support
to this event. She said:
“Southport’s young people need a platform in the town to share their ideas for the future success of Southport and the opportunity to develop themselves to be good citizens through partnership working not just between schools, which is fantastic, but also with the local community.
“Rotary values its relationship with the community and wants to bring people together for the benefit of us all!
“Young people care about their environment and much more. They can offer enthusiasm and motivation to get things done.
“Together we can achieve even more through collaborative working.
“We are all wanting a better place to belong to in these difficult times.
“Children are our future and need to be supported to the best of our ability.
“Please help us to achieve our goal for Southport and our local children as we are passionate about making this happen now.”
The schools involved have committed to raise money this term for the ‘ShelterBox’ Charity. ShelterBox works with communities who have been affected by disasters globally in providing emergency shelter and other essential items to families.
ShelterBox is Rotary International’s global partner.
John Heiko, Rotary International General Secretary and CEO said:
“The partnership between Rotary and ShelterBox has provided a place of refuge to people facing some of the most difficult and uncertain moments in their lives.”
