Chapel Street in Southport town centre will be temporarily closed to traffic at the junction with Eastbank Street.
The closure will take place from this Thursday (6th October 2025) until next Friday (14th November 2025).
It will enable contractor Balfour Beatty to carry out ongoing public realm improvements under the ‘Les Transformations de Southport’ scheme.
Access will be maintained for pedestrians, Emergency Services, and wherever possible for residents.

The scheme also saw the start of the temporary full closure of Eastbank Street in Southport during off-peak hours last night (Monday, 3rd November 2025) in the latest phase of the ‘Les Transformations de Southport’ improvements.
The road closures will take place between 6pm and 11pm between Monday, 3rd November 2025 and Friday, 14th November 2025.
Contractors Balfour Beatty will be working while Eastbank Street will be closed to traffic between Lord Street and Princes Street.
These works are being carried out to enable Balfour Beatty to minimise disruption and complete essential works within the road.
Access for commercial deliveries will be maintained wherever possible, and Balfour Beatty will coordinate with businesses to ensure minimal impact.
Balfour Beatty said: “We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank everyone for their cooperation in supporting the improvement of the public realm on Market Street, King Street and Eastbank Street.
“These efforts are part of the wider Les Transformations de Southport initiative aimed at enhancing our town.”
The Market Quarter area is being improved in a £6.25 multi-million transformation designed to attract more visitors and new businesses into the area.
The scheme, led by Sefton Council and being carried out by Balfour Beatty, will see the pedestrianisation of part of Market Street; King Street being made one way with wider pavements; and wider pavements and three new crossing points on Eastbank Street.
All the local independent shops, cafes and other businesses in the area remain open while the work is taking place.
