The new Poundland store in Southport town centre is now open!

The shop opened its doors at 8.30am this morning in the former Wilko store inside the Southport Train Station concourse at 36-40 London Street, Southport, PR9 0TJ.

It follows the announcement that Poundland has secured agreement with administrator PwC to take an option on a number of Wilko store leases.

Earlier this week, the firm confirmed that the former Wilko in Southport would begin its journey to becoming a Poundland.

Customers will be able to find a range of Poundland favourites in store, including a Pep clothing range, alongside any existing clearance items from its time as a Wilko, with a team of staff of 10 local employees headed by Manager Marta Gladyslaw.

Poundland retail director Darren Kay said:

“We’re pleased to be able to re-open so quickly in Southport.

“Of course, we’re not yet in a position to offer our fullest ranges in the store, but we know customers will appreciate a store that’s open, trading and employing colleagues to one that’s got its shutters closed.

“We’d encourage customers old and new to come and say hello to their new Poundland team.”

Poundland intends to carry out a full makeover of the Southport store in 2024 so it can become a fully operational Poundland.
