A group of 25 friends from Southport Hesketh Round Table are preparing to set off this Saturday (11th September) on a 65-mile cycle from Southport to all three Clatterbridge centres in Aintree, Wirral and Liverpool city centre.

They are making the ride in recognition of the “world class care” that former Southport Hesketh Round Table President Dean Wilson has received from Clatterbridge during his battle with blood cancer.

An SHRT spokesperson said: “It’s time to get On Your Bike Blood Cancer!

“This Saturday a group of us will be heading out on bikes to visit Clatterbridge Hospitals in Wirral, Aintree and Liverpool to raise awareness and much-needed funds for local blood cancer charities, The Candice Colley Foundation and The Bloom Appeal

“We had a target of £3,000 to raise for both charities and we have smashed it and now over £5,000. We would love to see people help us to raise more money for the charities, and more awareness about Clatterbridge and about blood cancer.

“A ‘peloton’ of around 25 riders will be taking on the 65 mile route.

“Our route is planned, our t-shirts are ready, the guys have hours of training in the tank (we hope!) – roll on Saturday!

“Why? because Dean asked us to!

“Dean is having his own battle with blood cancer and typical of the person he is, he is determined to use his situation to give back and do some good.

“Dean’s our mate, a former chairman, former president of Southport Hesketh Round Table and an all round good guy who many of you will have met and seen, like all our members giving so much of his time to our community events Santa Float, Bonfire, Children in Need and Mad Dog events, to name but a few.

“We of course said yes to supporting this without a moment’s hesitation!

“Keep an eye on our Facebook page on Saturday for live updates and to track our progress.”
