Southport College is proud to announce an exciting new collaboration with Wickes Southport, which will see students design and create a large-scale community art mural for the retailer’s new superstore at Kew Retail Park.
On Tuesday (20th January 2025), Wickes Southport Store Manager Connor and Regional Manager Kevin visited Southport College to present a design brief to students from the Level 3 Graphic Design, Level 3 Art and Design, and Level 4 Art Foundation courses.
The project will allow students to create a mural to be installed on an 8ft by 16ft display at the front of the new store.
The project encourages students to explore themes celebrating Southport, alongside Wickes’ mission and values, while showcasing their independent creativity.
Students are free to use a medium of their choice, reflecting the diversity of skills and approaches across the College’s art and design provision.
A final design will be selected by Regional Manager Kevin and a judging panel, after which the mural will be produced collaboratively by students from across Southport College’s art faculty.
The new Wickes superstore, opened in October 2025, is a 20,000-square-foot premises located at Kew Retail Park and has created 20 new jobs for the local community.
Through its Community Programme and commitment to supporting local charities and partnerships, Wickes is keen to build meaningful connections with organisations and businesses across Southport and the surrounding areas.
This mural project marks the beginning of a long-term partnership between Southport College and Wickes Southport. Both organisations are looking forward to developing a strong working relationship that provides valuable real-world opportunities for students while supporting the wider community.
