Dozens of runners came together in Southport to support the Let’s Lift The Curfew campaign.
As the clocks went back an hour, bringing with it darker nights, nearly 70 people gathered to support the appeal by This Girl Can UK and England Athletics to raise awareness of women’s safety when exercising after dark.
Those taking part included members of Southport Waterloo AC Run Club, Southport Coasters and Marshside Runners.
Others also taking part in the run to raise awareness included the Marshside Runners, Coastline Crossfit, Southport Strollers, Lakeside Runners, Kirkby Milers AC and the Formby Stormers.
A Southport Waterloo AC Rub Club spokesperson said: “Let’s lift the Curfew wow, what can we say other than a huge thank you to the almost 70 runners who joined us tonight for the SWAC, Southport Coasters and Marshside Runners #letsliftthecurfew run.
“Winter running can often feel bleak, dark, unsafe and lonely. Thanks to these incredible ladies and our allies, we raised awareness of the challenges winter running poses, as well as uniting runners from across Southport and beyond.
“Southport is a brilliant place for running, we have so many great clubs and as Mari said in the warm up you could run with one every night of the week.
“It was wonderful to see so many groups come together this evening to champion this much needed cause – just a few we spotted: Marshside Runners, Southport Coasters Running Club, Coastline Crossfit, Southport Strollers Running Club, Lakeside Runners, Kirkby Milers AC, Formby Stormers and more.
“Thank you to all the run leaders for their efforts in making this happen and to everyone who has organised runs this week to highlight this campaign – you are doing amazing things!
“If you are thinking that winter looks a little lonely and the darkness is a bit daunting, join a running club or community. It’s a brilliant place to find friendship and support whatever your goals / pace / length of time running etc. And if you think SWAC might be the one for you, get in touch – we’ve got exciting things on the horizon.”
