Sharon Gregory-Wareing from Southport has won the Community Champion Award sponsored by Merseyrail at the 2025 Merseyside Women of The Year Awards today.
Sharon, who has been the Community Champion at the Southport ASDA superstore in Southport for the past 18 years, is also a member of the Lord Street In Bloom volunteers.
Runner Up in the MWOTY Community Champion category is Paula Johnson of Sparkles Sudio in Liverpool.
Sharon Gregory-Wareing has made a huge difference locally, leading initiatives that have helped hundreds of local community groups and good causes.
For the past few years she has also been a committed part of the Lord Street In Bloom volunteers, who have recently transformed the Town Hall Gardens with new planters and hundreds of flowers and shrubs.
Last year Sharon was delighted to join the Southport BID Board as a Director.
Sharon said: “I have always been really passionate about the local community and also have many years’ experience in retail and believe I have a lot to contribute.
“I am always up for taking on a new challenge!
“I have been the Community Champion at Southport ASDA since 2007.
“Through that role I have supported lots of fantastic community groups in Southport, and have enabled lots of them to successfully apply for funding.
“I love being part of the Lord Street In Bloom volunteers. They do so much work to make Southport town centre look really good.
“We have some exciting things we’re working on for next year that people will love.
“There is a wonderful sense of community in Southport.”
Category winners and the overall ‘Merseyside Woman of the Year 2025’ are being revealed at the glittering annual celebration of exceptional women, which will take place at the Crowne Plaza in Liverpool City Centre today (Friday 27th June 2025).
