Families will love the new interactive musical light shows animating Southport’s 60ft illuminated tree this Christmas – and we’d love to hear what are YOUR favourite festive songs?

Christmas is always a magical time in Southport.

It sparkles throughout the festive season thanks to the investment of Southport BID businesses, with an additional 200,000 lights decorating the town centre each year.

This includes the LED Christmas tree, The Boulevard of Light on Lord Street, 8 smaller illuminated trees, and further lighting initiatives across the BID area.

For the first time ever this year, the huge illuminated tree in the Town Hall Gardens on Lord Street will display brand new interactive musical light shows, which will animate in sync with a medley of classic Christmas songs.

A rotation of two different animated shows will play on the hour throughout the daytime and early evening.  Each show will last roughly ten minutes and feature some of the best-known festive hits.

The landmark tree uses 25,000 LED pixels to enable impressive, colour-changing animations.

From mid-November onwards, visitors can enjoy the musical light shows in the Town Hall Gardens on Lord Street.

Southport BID CEO Rachel Fitzgerald said: “We are excited to welcome families to Southport this Christmas and are creating something spectacular that will make the experience unforgettable.

“We’d love to hear what you think. What are your favourite Christmas songs?

“Which tunes would you love to hear around the illuminated tree in Southport town centre?

“Southport really will sparkle this November and December with lots to enjoy in addition to our many fantastic shops, restaurants, cafes, bars, hotels, guest houses and more.”

The Bear and The Reindeer installations will return to the town centre this Christmas in new locations on Lord Street.

The new Canopy of Light on Scarisbrick Avenue will provide the perfect setting for those enjoying a festive tipple in the surrounding bars and clubs.

Rachel Fitzgerald said: “Southport has a growing reputation for spectacular lighting and Christmas animations.  We are excited to be able to add to that offer in 2024.

“The Bear and The Reindeer were introduced last year and Southport immediately fell in love with the two characters.  Tens of thousands visited the Town Hall Gardens each week to take selfies and pose for pictures.

“We’re expecting the new musical light show to be just as popular, and it’s just another reason for residents and visitors to engage with our town centre this festive period.”

Southport BID (Business Improvement District) is a not-for-profit organisation that represents over 750 businesses in Southport Town Centre.
