The Marshside Brass Band will be serenading families with Christmas carols outside the Peets Plaice fishmongers in Churchtown in Southport today!

The shop, at 142 Cambridge Road near Churchtown Lights, will be open between 8am and 1pm selling a wide selection of fresh seafood and fish ready for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and the Christmas and New Year holidays.

People can enjoy festive specials including some fresh scallops, lobsters, langoustines, prawns, crabs, freshly smoked fish, and of course the famous potted shrimps caught by local fisherman Kevin Peet himself off the coast of Southport.

Peets Plaice owner Kevin Peet said: “I’ve just bought some scallops for the shop ready for Christmas Eve. We are open between 8am and 1pm.

“We have The Marshside Brass Band at 10 am and we have a great selection for everyone.

“We have Southport shrimps, potted shrimps, crabs claws, dressed crabs, a big selection of prawns, oysters, lobsters, and much more.”

Seafood makes a perfect starter for Christmas Day and an impressive alternative as a main course.

Kevin Peet said: “Lots of people go traditional and serve turkey for their main course on Christmas Day, but fish and seafood has that real wow factor whether it’s served as a starter, as a main course, as a platter, or as snacks for your guests.

“We have a huge selection for people to choose from that is easy and hassle free to prepare and is also great value.”

Peets Plaice will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and 27th December.

On 28th, 29th and 30th December open 8am to 4pm

New Year’s Eve 8am to 1pm

Kevin Peet said: “Fish is really popular over the Christmas and new year season and there are so many ways of serving it such as prawn cocktail, potted shrimps with toast, fresh lobster, smoked salmon on toast, fresh oysters, our special smoked salmon and lobster pate, and lots more.

“Our potted shrimps have always been really popular, and you can’t beat eating something over the Christmas period that you know has been caught right here off the coast of Southport. You can keep them in your freezer too which is really handy. Our fresh brown shrimps are very popular too.

“Things like that as a starter on Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year’s Day is something special for people.

“Luxury prawns are always popular and we have bags of coldwater prawns or king prawns which are quick and easy to make into a prawn salad or a prawn cocktail while you’re busy cooking your main course. We even produce a nice home-made prawn cocktail sauce that you can use with them!

“For those looking for that taste of luxury, you could make a salad or a cocktail using fresh crayfish tails instead.

“We have Chapman’s Family Packages with lots of frozen specials that are quick and easy to put into your oven for guests.

“For anyone looking for what to buy loved ones this Christmas we also have Peets Plaice Gift Vouchers available.

“We can take orders online, or over the phone if that is easier for people.

“We deliver the next day, something you don’t get with supermarkets.

“As a local, family-run business with over 40 years’ experience, you are guaranteed quality products with great, friendly service.

“I would like to wish all our customers both new and old a very merry Christmas and a happy new year!.”
