A special Christmas event for families who have suffered the loss of a baby proved to be a great success.
Joanne Unsworth, Bereavement Lead Midwife at Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust, organised the event at JJ’s Jungle in Ormskirk to support the families of Rainbow Babies, a youngster who is born after a couple goes through miscarriage, a stillbirth, neonatal death or infant loss.
The term is used to refer to the feeling of watching a rainbow after rain, or when the storm clouds have passed. It symbolises the end of turbulent times and the beginning of something better.
Joanne said: “The party was arranged to have the chance to meet the Rainbow Babies born before, during and after the pandemic that myself and the Rainbow Midwives at the Trust have cared for.
“JJ’s Jungle in Ormskirk allowed us to use their play area free of charge and we were able to hand out selections boxes and toys which were kindly donated by the runners at Ormskirk Park Run, the Co-op in Ormskirk and Advantage NRG.
“It was a chance for the parents to meet and share their stories with others in a safe environment.
“It was an excellent turn out and even Father Christmas made an appearance.
“I can’t thank the sponsors enough for their support.’’
One of the parents who attended said: “Thank you for organising the event today. I really appreciated it and it made me feel really special.
“I felt slightly overwhelmed but in a good way… it meant the world to us.”
