Southport restaurateur Attilio Sergi taught hundreds of visitors at Southport Flower Show the secrets of making perfect fresh pasta – as he followed in the footsteps of Si King from the Hairy Bikers!
Attilio is a well-known figure in Southport having run the successful Trattoria 51 restaurant on the Promenade over the past two decades, while he opened the new Pasta 51 Express outlet inside Southport Market earlier this summer.
He has 45 years of experience in the business and even more experience of making fresh pasta.
He was born and raised in Santa Maria di Leuca, Puglia – ‘the home of tomatoes’ – at the heel of Italy. His family grew special wheat crops for pasta and his childhood was spent helping his mother to prepare fresh pasta, just like many generations have done before.
A Trattoria 51 spokesperson said: “Attilio and the team thoroughly enjoyed demonstrating how to make fresh pasta and how to produce the ‘real’ Carbonara to the fantastic crowds at Southport Flower Show on Saturday.
“Following Hairy Biker Simon King was always going to be a tough act, but Attilio and Daniele excelled.
“Attilio`s natural charm, wit and Italian stories had the large crowd of over 400 visitors enthralled.
“Attilio and Daniele being local obviously helped and many in the crowd had sampled the delights of Trattoria 51 and Pasta 51 Express.
“Following the demo several hundred more enjoyed a selection of pasta taster cones from the newly dubbed ‘Pasta Mastas’- the queue at one point stretching out of the tent!”
