The 27 most dangerous roads in Sefton without pedestrian crossings have been revealed.
Sefton Council published the list, in order of priority, as it prepares to spend £100,000 on carrying work towards providing new crossing facilities at the top three.
The three crossings where improvements will be made are at: Crosby Road South, in Crosby; Liverpool Road North in Maghull; and the Northern Road in Crosby.
Only two Southport roads made it onto the top 10 list – Liverpool Road, by Alma Road, in Birkdale Village (sixth) and The Plough Roundabout in Crossens (seventh, all legs assessed, but highest was Preston New Road).
One surprising omission was Lulworth Road in Southport, where close friends Marie Cunningham, 79, and Grace Foulds, 85, died after being struck by a vehicle on Tuesday, 30th November 2021.
A petition launched by their family calling for a level crossing on the road has already been signed by over 5,000 people.
Lulworth Road features four times on the list, at 20th, 22nd, 23rd and 24th.

In his report, Sefton Council Head of Highways & Public Protection Peter Moore said: “As in previous years, officers have used the approved methodology in determining the proposed pedestrian crossing priority list of new sites.
“This is a nationally accepted method of assessing requests for new pedestrian crossing facilities based upon the pedestrian / vehicle conflict occurring at each location utilising the formula – PV², where P is the number of pedestrians crossing, and V is the volume of traffic present over an hourly period. The hourly figures used are based on the average of the four busiest hours for the site.”
Mr Moore added that other weighting factors are used, such as: the percentage of elderly pedestrians; the percentage of unaccompanied children; the percentage of prams / pushchairs / wheelchairs; the road width; the time taken to cross the road; vehicle speeds; the number of pedestrian collisions in the latest three year period.
It is proposed to commission feasibility and preliminary design work on the top three sites on the list.
A sum of £100,000 has been identified within the 2022/3 Integrated Transport Programme for Advanced Design to fund the development of schemes and projects for delivery in future years.
