A donation of £200 has been made to improve the Botanic Gardens in Churchtown in Southport thanks to a Jubilee competition organised by The Dram Gift Shop.
The shop, which opened on Botanic Road in Churchtown earlier this year, organised a raffle, in conjunction with Sandgrounder Radio, with £5 tickets. The first prize was a very special first prize of a limited edition of a bottle of Platinum Jubilee Special finest English single malt whisky. The bottle was created by The English Whisky Company which is based in Norfolk.
Only 3,000 bottles of this very special whisky were made.
The raffle was won by Ruth Peacock, who lives in Southport and is a teacher at Stanley High School.
Darren Boyd-Preece, owner of The Dram Gift Shop, offered Ruth the opportunity to decide where she would like to donate £200 from the proceeds of the raffle to a charity of her choice.
For Ruth, there was no doubt. She was eager to donate the money to the Make A Change For Botanic campaign to improve the historic Botanic Gardens in Churchtown.
Ruth and Darren presented the £200 cheque at the Botanic Gardens Family Fun Day to Jess Thwaites, organiser of the fun day, and one of the leading figures in the Make A Change For Botanic group.

Ruth said: “When I was given the opportunity of where to donate the £200, I knew straight away that I wanted to give it to the Make A Change For Botanic group.
“I live locally and we come to the park regularly.
“It is a really good thing that the campaigners are doing, making the park great again.
“It is something that will be of huge benefit to everyone in the local area.
“They have a lot more work to do and more fundraising to do, so I was happy to help them in any way I could.
“My boyfriend, Ben Oliver, and my Dad, John Peacock, will be able to enjoy the whisky between them!”
Darren Boyd-Preece, owner of The Dram Gift Shop, said: “When we announced the winner of the raffle, we asked Ruth where she would like the £200 to go. She was very keen to see the money going towards improving the Botanic Gardens.
“There were only 3,000 bottles of this whisky produced, it was a great prize to win. I hope her partner and her Dad enjoy it!”
The Dram opened at 76 Botanic Road on Saturday, 30th April, 2022.
The shop sells a wide range of gifts connected to whisky.
It also provides whisky and a tasting service so you can try before you buy. The tasting area in the shop is now sponsored by Arran Distillery.
