Gurkhas congratulated for ‘immaculate’ Attestation parade at Altcar Training Camp

Ninety six Gurkhas from Recruit Intake 2020 took part in their Queen’s Gurkha Signals Attestation parade in Altcar Training Camp in Hightown.

Colonel of the Regiment, Major General JJ Cole OBE was the inspecting officer at the parade. Long Service and Good Conduct medals were also presented to Sergeant Bibek Gurung and Sergeant Agnesh Rai.

The following trade allocations were announced at the end of the parade:

North West Reserve Forces & Cadets Association RFCA Chief Executive, Colonel Mark Underhill (OBE DL) said: “It was truly humbling to have been invited to witness the Attestation Parade, the drill and turnout was immaculate.

“It has been an absolute delight to host the Queen’s Gurkha Signals at Altcar Training Camp and we congratulate all the young soldiers on their success today.”

The Gurkhas have been at Altcar since last December. 

Before they arrived, Altcar and Pontins holiday camp in Southport were used as bases for British Army troops who were carrying out mass Covid testing in the Liverpool City Region in the first scheme of its kind in the UK.
