Southport’s hospitality businesses may now be closed due to the current Covid national lockdown.

But staff at a popular Birkdale pub have decided that they want to put their venue’s kitchen to good use, by cooking and delivering hot meals to cheer up residents in our local care homes.

Bosses at The Crown, on Liverpool Road in Birkdale, say “we all know the hospitality industry is already struggling but if we can help then we will”.

They said: “Hope everyone had a lovely  new year and celebrated safely.

“After sorting out some stocks today, Vicki Gordon has decided to put together some meals which can be cooked in the oven, ideally for care homes so they can be delivered in a large tray ready for their residents.

“There won’t be a lot, so it would be first come first served. There is a selection of: lamb hotpot with veg, mac n cheese, beef bourguignon with mash and a ragu pasta bake.

“These will be free of charge – we just want to help the community in any way we can, as we all know the hospitality industry is already struggling but if we can help then we will.

“If anybody can recommend a home that will benefit from a donation like this, please message our Facebook page directly. As we are furloughed, it may take a day or so to reply. I will look at delivering these at the start of next week.

“The food will be prepared in the pubs kitchen which has a current 5* eho rating, PPE will be worn upon delivery also.

“Please stay safe, we got through the last lockdown and we can get through this one too.”
